Fall Fine Forgiveness-Humane Society

The library’s Fall fine-forgiveness campaign begins November 1st. We will be collecting items such as dog food, cat food, dry kitten food, cat litter, paper towels and trash bags for the Wayne County Humane Society. Also, we will take half of fine totals when paying cash. Please consider donating items even if you do not have any fines. We will continue to collect items and cash donations until December 5th. Our furry friends thank you!

Do you need a quiet place to study?

The library staff ask that all students and staff make an effort to keep the library, library lab, and community room quiet and inviting places to study, work on projects, and use library materials. There are peak times, though, when the sheer number of students creates noise that some students find distracting.

To address the need for quiet study space, the library staff recently updated the group study room policy to allow for single library users to reserve a group study room. If you’re looking for a quiet place to study, consider reserving one of the three group study rooms. The rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis, unless a reservation has been made.

When events are not planned in the Community Room, this space is also available for quiet study.

If you are interested in hearing more about our group study rooms, please stop in or contact the library staff.

Library quiz / retake deadline fast approaching...

All library workshop / tutorial content (including all post-tests and retakes) must be completed by Sunday, October 26th.

No extensions will be provided this semester, so be sure to leave plenty of time to complete your tests. The library staff require three days to grade all post-tests, which may impact how much time you have to complete retakes.

Fireside Readers November Selection

In November the Fireside Readers will meet to discuss Mockingbird: A Portrait of Harper Lee by Charles J. Shields.

“To Kill a Mockingbird, the twentieth century's most widely read American novel, still sells a million copies yearly. Yet despite the book's perennial popularity, its creator remains a somewhat mysterious figure. Journalist Shields brings to life the warmhearted, high-spirited, and occasionally hardheaded woman who gave us two of American literature's most unforgettable characters--Atticus Finch and his daughter, Scout--and who contributed to the success of her lifelong friend Truman Capote's masterpiece, In Cold Blood. At the center of the book is Lee's struggle to create her famous novel. But her life contains many other highlights: her girlhood as a tomboy in overalls in tiny Monroeville, Alabama; the murder trial that made her father's reputation and inspired her great work; her journey to Kansas as Capote's ally and research assistant on the story of the Clutter murders; the surrogate family she found in New York City.”

The group will meet on Monday, November 3rd at 7 p.m. in the Community Room. As always, new members and guests are always welcome. Light refreshments will be served.
